Abstract:

Dengue has become a sustained and intensifying public health emergency in Bangladesh, shaped by both country-specific vulnerabilities and an expanding global risk. From 2018 through 2025, repeated outbreaks have led to significant illness and loss of life across all age groups. These trends are fueled by rapid urban growth, extreme population density, inadequate sanitation, and shifting climate patterns. Environmental decline—marked by shrinking green spaces, rising pollution, and widespread plastic waste—has created ideal conditions for mosquito breeding. At the same time, changing demographic patterns show that children, adolescents, and young adults are increasingly affected. Addressing this crisis requires urgent, coordinated action, including stronger public health systems, effective vector control strategies, and sustained community engagement to limit ongoing transmission and reduce the threat of wider regional and global spread.
